The University of Windsor Faculty of Education has partnered with Lambton’s Early Childhood Education program to offer this collaborative graduate program. Windsor combines quality programming with exceptional faculty and prides itself in offering a student-focused approach to education. This degree-granting program emphasizes active involvement and reflective practice by providing students with practical work experience in primary/junior classroom settings alongside a certified teaching professional.
Lambton College’s Early Childhood Education program specializes in preparing students in both theory and practice in a variety of settings. Students will have the opportunity to experience child care first-hand within the Lambton College on-campus Ontario Early Years Centre, and the Early Childhood Education Centre. The facility is used as a lab for ECE students to gain practical experience with children, while applying the theory learned in the classroom.Students in this program will concentrate on their Bachelor of Education during the first and last semesters of the program through the study of: child development; contemporary issues in education; differentiating instruction for all students; educational foundations, law & ethics; and specialized methodology for teaching visual arts, health and physical education, language arts, mathematics, music, science and social studies.During the second and third semesters of the program, students will study: ELECT (Early Learning for Every Child Today); assessment (infant to preschool); child guidance; health, safety and nutrition; observation (in our video lab); curriculum development; foundations of play; working with diverse families; and early childhood education philosophy and curriculum approaches.Instructors in the program will co-plan to achieve a seamless integrated approach to early learning philosophy, curriculum and teaching approaches.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A recognized three-year (minimum) Bachelor’s Degree (with a minimum cumulative average of 70%) and submit an applicant profile – see University of Windsor website for further details.
Applicants who have attended university outside of Ontario must have official transcripts sent directly to the Faculty of Education from the home institution. A certified translation of transcripts in languages other than English is required.
Applicants must have at least 10 semester courses completed at a recognized university at the time of application. It is desirable that applicants have studied a wide range of subject areas. Therefore, applicants who have one or more university courses in the main curriculum areas listed below will receive preference: English, Mathematics, Canadian Geography/History, Fine Arts (Visual Arts/Drama/Music/Dance), Physical Education and Science.
Teacher candidate selection is based on:
  1. Academic standing: All applicants must have a minimum cumulative average of 70% (B-) or higher. The academic average is calculated on the best 30 semester courses (not including college transfer credit) at the time of admission. Courses completed after August 2009 will not be used in the calculation of the average.
  2. Applicant profile: All applicants are required to submit a completed Applicant Profile form no later than February 28, 2011.*
  3. An equity consideration form, where applicable: The Faculty of Education affirms its principles and policy of fairness and equity for individuals who are qualified for the teaching profession and who reflect the ethno cultural and social diversity of the population of students in Ontario’s schools. In pursuit of this principle and policy, we seek to identify candidates representing backgrounds whose perspectives will diversify and enrich the teaching and learning community. Applications are encouraged from groups that are traditionally under-represented in the teaching profession.
  4. English Language Proficiency Requirement, where applicable: All applicants whose first language is not English and who have not lived in an English-speaking country for five years or more must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), with a minimum IBT total score of 92 (with a minimum speaking and writing component of 25) or a computer-based total score of 237 or a paper-based total score of 580 (5.5 on the essay writing is required for both the computer and paper based), and a TSE (Test of Spoken English) score of 55 (TSE is required for computer and paperbased tests only).
*It has come to Lambton College’s attention that some advertising was done for this program with an incorrect application deadline. Students applying to the Bachelor of Education – Early Childhood Education program will still need to have their applications submitted by February 28, 2011 in order to be considered for the program.

Bachelor of Science – Nursing

Lambton College offers this four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program, in collaboration with the University of Windsor and St. Clair College. Students who successfully graduate from this program receive a Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from the University of Windsor. Students who successfully complete their first and second year at Lambton College, will register as students at the University of Windsor – Windsor Campus for semesters five, six, and seven, then return to Lambton College for their last semester.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The admission requirements for applicants to the BScN program will be those prevailing at the University of Windsor.
O.S.S.D. or equivalent with:
Six courses from the University U or M stream and an overall average of 72% minimum
Grade 12 English U
Grade 12 Biology U SBI4U
Grade 12 Chemistry U SCH4U
*minimum requirement is a science average of 70%
Applicants with a gap of at least one year between secondary school and admission to the BScN program are required to provide a resume to the College showing all activity from the time the applicant left secondary school to the start of the BScN program. In addition, applicants are required to provide all transcripts from other post-secondary institutions. All university transcripts will be sent to the University of Windsor for review. Applicants must be at “good standing” and meet minimum grade requirements.
Course equivalencies can be obtained through Pre-Programs at Lambton.  
Applicants from Pre-Health Sciences – BScN (Lambton College & St. Clair College Only) Effective September 2010, graduates of the Pre-Health Sciences – BScN program will need an overall GPA of 2.7 and will need a minimum grade of 70% (B-) in Biology (over the two terms) and a minimum grade of 70% (B-) in Chemistry (over the two terms.)
